I've been taking a closer look at my home decor these days... while I still love the colors and accessories, I'm a little bit "tired" of the shabby/pinky/flowery theme. It's no longer sufficient to just throw different pillows on the coach, move artwork around, rotate accessories.... I'm just not feeling it anymore.
My current style for decorating my home has evolved gradually... but I can trace it back to the days when I started collecting Limoges china. The dainty pink flowers were my inspiration... I started displaying a few plates here and there. Then I started collected paintings of pink roses... vintage hats... and pretty soon, virtually every room in my home had a floral theme.
Even my kitchen "makeover" included a floral theme!
My family not only tolerates my flower craze, they encourage it!
(Or am I just imagining it?)
So now, after more than 12 years of loving this look, why do I feel the need for change?
I wonder....
Did turning "50" this week have anything to do with it? Or is it all those fabulous home decor books and magazines I've been perusing lately?
Maybe it's the beautiful rooms and homes I've been seeing throughout Blogland.
So what am I attracted to now?
The seashore colors.... white, cream, ecru, sand, washed out gray, with hints of the palest hues of blues and greens. Down would come all the florals... to be replaced with nautical, beachy, oceania, nature, sisal area rugs...
..nary a pink in sight...
My daugther very gently reminded me that we live in Minnesota, where the winters can be 7 months long.
Was that supposed to dissaude me?
Talk is cheap. We'll see if I can really go through with this.
I do so love my pink flowers.

I think blogging opens us up to a whole new horizon. We see what's out there in the world and we start to gradually want to incorporate some of into our own spaces and lives. I know my tastes have changed in the last several years, and I'm so happy I've made the changes I have. it's very "freeing"! thanks for linking up to VIF,xo Debra

You should go for it.....
Change is good....it keeps us young. You weren't always blogging. You had to make changes to blog, to marry, to mother, etc.
It is not good to stay locked in the past....open your horizons.....bloom....create.
All that you do will always have it's roots in your past.
Above all, have a pinkishly beautiful day.
:-)

Happy 50th! you know, I went through something similar about the same time. I still love flowers and have them everywhere, but I wanted a more grown up look in my house and did a lot of changes. But I still don't think that turning 50 makes us grownups yet!!

Happy Pink Saturday Sweetie...
What a gorgeous share. I love your story about collecting your Limoges and how everything came to be.
Your kitchen is positively delightful. I love the pink stripes and the wonderfully captured roses. How soft and soothing it must be to work in there. SO much beauty surrounds you. Your curtain topper is SO beautiful as well. You have put a lot of time and effort into this room. I for one certainly hate to see you change it, but you know what we always say, "A girl has to do, what a girl has to do." Can't wait to see the changes you make. I will be watching sweet friend.
Have a glorious weekend. Many country hugs from Phoenix, Sherry

I love pink, and your house is charming, but seaside chic is a nice look too. Have fun with it! Happy pS!

I know what you mean about change in decor. When I first moved to Florida, I felt like I had to decorate with pastels - which is not me. My taste is very eclectic - our home is filled with original art!

A late Happy Birthday, Mercedes.....
I can relate to what you are saying....Our dining room is nearly all white, but have touches of the softest seafoam green and other pretty colors....I am very eclectic! I have a big bowl of shells from the beaches at La Jolla, CA. that my boys found when they were young....I love a pretty mix of all my roses with all my other little loves. And, you know what? They seem to marry together so well!
Have fun....Your house is pretty!!!

Your kitchen now is beautiful and your ideas for a new look are also! Sometimes a change is good. I am thinking of doing the same.

I know how you feel. We all need an occasional change. But, be certain to hang on to a bit of pink. Pink is a happy color.
